Why I Chose Wigley Engineering for the Offmain Navara
When I started building my Nav, I knew one thing: no matter how good your lift or tyres are, if your tray and canopy setup is garbage, you’re going to hate life by day 3 on the road. So I wasn’t about to settle for cookie-cutter aluminium or off-the-shelf Chinese made - sorry.
I went straight to the crew at Wigley Engineering — because they’re local, they’re practical, and they build stuff that doesn’t just survive out bush… it thrives. Here’s why my Wigley setup is the backbone of my Navara build — and how it turns this rig into a touring beast and comp rig all in one.
🛠 THE TRAY – MADE TO WORK, NOT JUST LOOK PRETTY
My 1600mm Aussie-made tray is anything but basic. It’s rugged, well thought out, and absolutely hammered week after week — with zero rattles or regrets.
Here’s what makes it sing:
-
Nutserts galore – Well, they're actually hexserts. And, they're all over the tray. When the canopy’s off, I can strap down anything, anywhere. Eyelets, tie-downs, recovery gear, full camp setups — it’s endlessly configurable.
-
30L headboard-integrated water tank – No wasted space and gravity-fed for total simplicity.
-
40L secondary tank – Plumbed in with the first and accessed via a single gravity-fed tap. No pumps to fail. Just open the tap and fill your bottle, billy or pot.
-
Undertray boxes – Lockable and deep. I stash recovery gear, tools, spares in one and a twin ARB compressor in the other!
-
Rear trundle drawer – Long enough for the awkward stuff: Ladder, tripod, shovel, you name it.
It’s tough, it’s practical, and it’s built with actual off-road use in mind. No chrome. No fluff. Just raw utility that looks good doing its job.
Oh, and did I mention it has a universal mounting system? So, if I ever ditch the Nav, this bad boy is coming with me to any other fouby I setup next!
🧰 THE CANOPY – SMALL FOOTPRINT, BIG FUNCTION
At just 1350mm, this jack-off canopy is compact — but don’t let that fool you. It punches way above its size in storage, layout, and versatility.
Here’s what it’s rocking:
-
85L bushman upright fridge – Efficient, roomy, and it means cold bourbon (and espresso martinis - thank you iKegger) and fresh food every time.
-
Travel buddy oven – Because mini pizzas and fish fingers are a non-negotiable part of my toddlers touring diet. And well, because us adults love a slow cooked roast!
-
Enerdrive power system – 200Ah lithium battery, 150W solar panel on the roof, DCDC charger, and a custom-mount charging station for content gear.
-
Wigley twin drawers – Smooth runners, perfect fit, nothing slides out mid-track.
-
Slide-out pantry & table – Perfect for camp cooking or a race-day toolkit.
-
Roof rack system – Braced canopy roof fitted with racks for our 4x4 Network rooftop tent, awning and gear.
-
Modular tie-down track system & hexserts – Inside and out. Everything has a place. And if it doesn’t? I make one.
-
Wrapped in contour map vinyl with palm tree handles – Because she’s tough and she’s cute.
-
Chainsaw box – Because, well - once you have one, you wont go back. No gross fuel smell in the car. Plus its lockable. And provides a space for all the fuel, oil, chains and axe!
-
Lockable jerry can holder – Fuel when I need it, secure when I don’t.
-
Spare tyre holder - sitting on the end of the tray, perfectly balanced!
It’s the dream combo — fully modular and removable. Drop the canopy for comp days or run it full-send for remote touring. Either way, I’m ready.
🏕 BUILT TO PERFORM — ANYWHERE, ANYTIME
I don’t baby this rig. It’s seen:
-
River crossings and snow climbs in the Victorian High Country
-
Blistering heat on the NSW Coastline
-
Cobar rocks and red dirt during the Cliffhanger 4WD Event
-
The Springs 4x4 Park, tackling hill climbs and comp walls
The Wigley setup hasn’t blinked. No cracked welds. No loose panels. No dusty electrics or broken drawers. Everything is sealed, secured, and road-tested by someone who doesn’t pull over for coffee unless there's a good track nearby.
💬 WHY WIGLEY? SIMPLE.
Because Australian-made matters. Because they design with actual experience — not just CAD files. And because I needed a setup I could depend on through comps, camping, content shoots, and cute family road trips.
The crew at Wigley Engineering took the time to get to know how I use my rig. They made suggestions, let me get hands-on with the layout, and delivered a tray + canopy combo that genuinely makes life easier.
No gimmicks. No regrets. Just smart, solid design that holds up to the chaos I throw at it.
